IELTS for Pharmacists: Band Score Requirements for Pharmacy Registration Worldwide

Most pharmacy regulators require IELTS Academic Band 7.0 overall with Band 7.0 in each component. The UK's GPhC enforces strict per-component minimums — no band can fall below 7.0. United Kingdom

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) requires IELTS Academic Band 7.0 in each component — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. There is no overall threshold; each band must individually meet 7.0.

OET is also accepted with Grade B in all four skills. International pharmacists must also complete the Overseas Pharmacists' Assessment Programme (OSPAP) and pass the GPhC registration assessment before practising.

GPhC does not allow combining scores from multiple IELTS sittings. Your test results must be less than two years old at the time of application.

Australia

Accepted alternatives include OET (Grade B in all four skills), PTE Academic (65 in each skill), and TOEFL iBT (94 overall with section minimums).

International pharmacists must also pass the KAPS (Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Sciences) exam and complete a supervised practice period.

Canada

English proficiency required for PEBC Qualifying Exam eligibility. Most provinces require IELTS Academic 7.0 for full pharmacist registration.

The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) requires proof of English or French proficiency to sit the qualifying examinations. Most provincial pharmacy colleges require IELTS Academic Band 7.0 for full registration.

For immigration, pharmacists need CLB 7 via Express Entry. Provincial licensing requirements are separate — the Ontario College of Pharmacists and other provincial bodies set their own English proficiency standards.

New Zealand

Saudi Arabia
