IELTS Speaking test

Free IELTS Speaking Test Practice with AI Band Score

Record up to 60 seconds answering an IELTS Part 2-style question and get an AI band estimate (9-band scale) in under a minute, with feedback on fluency, vocabulary, grammar and speech clarity. It is free, needs no account and allows one scored recording a day. It is an AI estimate, not an official IELTS score.

Hear an original prompt, answer naturally and see which part of your speaking is holding the band down. The check is built to show your next practice priority, not to reward a memorised script.

Develop an answer: a worked example

Original practice question: describe a place where you enjoy spending time. A brief answer such as ‘I like the park because it is nice’ gives the listener little detail.

One way to develop it: ‘I often go to the park near my apartment after work. I like it because the walking path is away from traffic, so I can hear the birds instead of car horns. Last Friday I took a book and stayed until sunset.’

The second answer names the place, explains a reason and illustrates it with a specific occasion. This is an illustrative example, not a scored recording or a script to memorize. Pronunciation and spoken fluency cannot be assessed from this text.

For your own answer, choose a place you know. After recording, check whether your reason and example are clear. Use one point from the feedback in your next attempt rather than changing everything at once.

What the free Speaking check measures

IELTS Speaking is assessed on Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. The free check estimates the first three from your transcript and delivery. For the fourth it reports a speech-clarity signal, not a full Pronunciation score.

One 60-second answer cannot reproduce an 11–14 minute face-to-face test. Use the result as a starting estimate; full Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 practice sessions are part of the paid plans.

  • Fluency and Coherence
  • Lexical Resource
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy
  • Speech clarity (a signal, not the Pronunciation band)

Natural answers are stronger than scripts

Memorised responses can sound fluent until the question changes. A better practice sample develops a real idea, gives a reason or example and uses language the speaker can control reliably.

Pauses and self-correction are normal. Focus on connected meaning, a sustainable pace and clear pronunciation rather than speaking as fast as possible.

Questions about the free IELTS Speaking test

Is this IELTS Speaking test really free?
Yes. You do not need an account or a card. Each browser gets one scored recording per day, and one network can make up to 10 a day. Full Part 1, 2 and 3 practice sessions are part of the paid plans; the pricing page lists what each includes.
How accurate is the AI band score?
Treat it as an estimate, not an official IELTS score. A 60-second answer is much shorter than the real 11–14 minute test, so one result is a starting point: compare several recordings before drawing conclusions. We have not yet published an accuracy study for Speaking.
Which parts of the Speaking test does it cover?
You answer one Part 2-style question, such as “Describe a place where you enjoy spending time”, for up to 60 seconds. It does not run the Part 1 interview questions or the Part 3 discussion.
Will my accent lower my score?
Accent is not an IELTS criterion, and the check does not compare you with a British or American accent. Its speech-clarity signal comes from how clearly the speech recogniser could follow you, so a noisy room or a weak microphone can lower it. Record somewhere quiet.
What happens to my recording?
The audio is used only to transcribe and score your answer and is deleted as soon as the analysis finishes. An upload that is never analysed is removed by an hourly clean-up once it is two hours old. The transcript and result are kept for 48 hours so you can reopen or save them, then they expire.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in a current mobile browser once you allow microphone access, and accepts the audio formats phones record (WebM, Ogg and MP4/M4A). No app is needed.
