IELTS Writing Score Estimator
Unlike Reading and Listening, IELTS Writing has no raw-score conversion table. Two examiners assess your essays against four criteria, each scored on the band scale. Your writing score is the weighted average of these four marks.
The Four Assessment Criteria
Task Achievement / Task Response
Did you fully answer the question? Task 1 must cover all key features of the data. Task 2 must present a clear position with fully developed ideas.
Coherence & Cohesion
Is your essay logically organized? Paragraphing, linking words, and information flow are assessed. Overusing connectors (Furthermore, Moreover) actually hurts this criterion.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary range, accuracy, and appropriateness. Band 7+ requires less common vocabulary used naturally. Band 6 allows some errors if meaning is clear.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy
Complex sentence structures and error frequency. Band 7+ needs a majority of error-free sentences with a mix of complex structures.
There is no raw score table for writing — each essay is scored holistically by trained examiners.
