IELTS vs PTE: Which English Test is Right for You in 2026?
Both tests are accepted for UK and Australian visas and by most universities. For Canada you need PTE Core, not PTE Academic. Choose PTE for fast, computer-scored results. Choose IELTS if you would rather speak to a person.

Is PTE easier than IELTS?
Neither test is objectively easier. PTE may feel more predictable due to computer scoring, while IELTS may suit those who prefer face-to-face speaking. Your personal strengths and test-taking style determine which is easier for you.
Can I take both IELTS and PTE?
Yes, you can take both tests. Some candidates take both to see which yields a better score, or to meet requirements for different destinations that accept different tests.
Is PTE accepted in the UK?
PTE is accepted by many UK universities for admissions. PTE Academic is also now approved by UKVI as a Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK visa and immigration purposes, alongside IELTS SELT.
