Step 1

Consejos del examinador IELTS sobre este tema

1

State your clear position (agree or disagree) unequivocally in your introduction and ensure every body paragraph directly supports or subtly reinforces this stance. When acknowledging the opposing view, use a concessionary phrase like 'While it is undeniable that...' or 'Admittedly, there is some merit to the idea that...' followed immediately by a strong counter-argument that pivots back to your main thesis.

2

To argue against the premise, consider highlighting jobs requiring uniquely human attributes: for instance, roles demanding high emotional intelligence (e.g., therapists, nurses, teachers), complex creative problem-solving (e.g., R&D scientists, artists, entrepreneurs), or ethical decision-making (e.g., judges, policy makers). You could cite the growing demand for personalized care in aging societies like Japan or the need for innovative educators adapting to new learning paradigms.

3

The most common mistake is failing to define or exemplify 'fully human jobs' and instead discussing general job displacement. Avoid this by explicitly contrasting tasks that can be automated (e.g., repetitive manufacturing, data entry) with those requiring empathy, critical thinking, or artistic expression, thereby demonstrating a nuanced understanding of human versus machine capabilities.

4

For this opinion essay, employ a 'thesis-driven' linking strategy where each body paragraph's topic sentence clearly introduces a point supporting your overall agreement or disagreement. Use sophisticated cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore, it is imperative to consider...', 'Conversely, a strong argument can be made that...', or 'Consequently, the notion that...' to guide the reader through your logical progression of ideas.

5

Examiners look for a sophisticated and nuanced argument that avoids a simplistic 'yes/no' answer, even while maintaining a clear position. A band 8-9 response will demonstrate a deep understanding of the complexities of technological advancement and its impact on the workforce, using precise vocabulary, a wide range of grammatical structures (especially for concession and rebuttal), and a consistently coherent and cohesive development of ideas.

Grammar Patterns for Band 7+

Oración compleja con concesión

Although some argue that technology isolates people, the evidence suggests it strengthens connections.

Demuestra control gramatical avanzado. Empieza con «Aunque/While» + opinión opuesta, luego expresa tu postura — muestra pensamiento matizado.

Condicional (tipo 2)

If governments invested more in public transport, traffic congestion would decrease significantly.

Ideal para escenarios hipotéticos y soluciones. Estructura: «Si + pretérito imperfecto del subjuntivo, condicional simple» — refleja flexibilidad e imaginación.

Voz pasiva para tono academic

It is often argued that education should be free. However, this view overlooks the practical challenges.

Academic writing prefiere construcciones pasivas. «Se + verbo en participio + que…» crea un tono autoritario y objetivo.

Cláusula relativa

Students who study abroad, which is becoming increasingly common, tend to develop greater independence.

Agrega sofisticación sin complejidad. Usa «quien» para personas, «lo cual» para cosas, «que» para ambos.

Grupo nominal para densidad

The rapid expansion of urban areas has led to increased pollution levels.

Transmite más información en menos palabras. «La implementación de políticas efectivas» vs «las políticas se implementan de forma efectiva» — mejora tu puntaje Lexical Resource.
